Canon EF 38-76mm f / 4.5-5.6 Kit Zoom Lens - for Canon EF mount cameras.
Launched on the market in 1995, sold in the markets of Europe, Asia and the countries of the former USSR. The lens came with the camera Canon EOS5000QD... There is very little information about it, even on the Canon Museum website, only a photo and a specification remained from the lens.

In operation, the lens behaves quite predictably and does not cause any complaints. The autofocus motor makes a noise when focusing, but since the lens travel is short, it doesn't take long and you don't pay much attention. By the way, it makes less noise than Ef-s 18-55that were completed cameras Canon before replacing with lenses with STM motors. The lens is light, not felt in the hand.
Of course, there are no complaints about the build quality. Smooth plastic body with enough gaps for dust to get inside the lens. The front lens rotates during operation, so conventional polarizing filters are not suitable here. Bayonet plastic, inside lens the electronics plume is visible.
The focal length of this lens is weird. There is a moderately wide angle, there is a portrait position. However, the meanings are strange and are nowhere to be found. 38-76 is a 35-fold increase, but why not 70-40? Or 80-XNUMX? Why did you need to release another version lens, because at that time Canon already had the EF35-80 f / 4-5.6 III on the free market. In general, if not asking questions, the lens has a range of focal lengths to cover specific needs. Well, "just shoot", in general. The minimum focusing distance is 68 centimeters. Of course, one can only dream of a macro. However, at the far end of the focal length, you can zoom in twice on the subject. A close-up shot of flowers will go. Portraits can be shot too. But on digital I didn't like them, although the background blur is good.
As stated above focusing Canon 38-76 is fast, not very noisy. There is no adjustment for sharpness, except for the backlash of the autofocus drive. A switch on the body physically disconnects the mechanism, and the lens unit gains free rotation. For example, the STM lens family (Canon 40 \ 2.8, Canon 50 \ 1.8) it happens programmatically. There is no stabilization.
