Foma bohemia

October 5, 2014

Foma Bohemia is a Czech company producing photographic materials for black and white photography. Founded in 1921 as a factory in Hradec Králové, then, after the end of the Second World War, it turned into an association under the name "Fotochema", later renamed in 1995 after privatization.

In the first half of the 1914th century, several factories for the production of photographic materials were built on the territory of the modern Czech Republic in the cities of Brno (1919), Kutná Hora (1921) and a number of others. The largest of them was the plant, founded in XNUMX in the town of Hradec Králové, which initially produced photographic plates and photoreagents for them. In the future, the company expanded the range of products, adding photographic paper and film to it. Even before the outbreak of World War II, goods under the Foma brand began to be exported to European countries.

After the end of World War II, the enterprises were nationalized and on their basis the national association Fotochema was created with the main plant in Hradec Králové and factories in the cities of Brno, Blansko and Český Brod. Among the enterprises that were part of the association at that time was a research institute and customer service departments of Service-Foma. In the 1970s, more than 60% of the company's products were exported abroad, to the CMEA countries. The association also produced some goods under the licenses of Western firms from the USA and Germany; such products included, for example, Kodapack cassettes for Super-8 film.

At present (2019) the enterprise is a large international manufacturer of medical X-ray films, materials for industrial radiography, black and white photographic papers, photographic films and photoreagents.

Unlike many other manufacturers of photographic materials for analog photography, which are phasing out or reducing their product range, Foma continues to develop new materials. For example, in May 2015, it introduced the new Retropan 320 Soft film, and in 2017 released a new type of photographic paper for bromoil - Fomabrom Variant IV 123 BO.

The range of products of the company for April 2017:
