Zeiss Ikon is the result of another amalgamation of photographic equipment manufacturers. Zeiss Ikon includes ICA, Ernemann AG, Goerz, Contessa-Nettel. Later, the group was joined by AG Hahn für Optik und Mechanik, Kassel, and Goerz Photochemisches Werk GmbH, Berlin. The company logo is a name inscribed in the drawing of the rear lens of the Tessar diagram. Before the war, Zeiss Ikon also had a presence in Japan and sold Contax and Zeiss ikon cameras there. The group was controlled by the Carl Zeiss fund, which initiated the merger, with controlling stakes in the companies. Ziess Ikon produced cameras and accessories, optics were ordered from Carl Zeiss. Goerz were forced to discontinue their own lenses after the merger. Before World War II, Zeiss Ikon was not widely known. After the war, the company was divided into two parts, west and east.

Some of the companies' equipment was transported together with personnel to Kiev to set up the production of Soviet photographic equipment. The eastern part of the company was nationalized in 1948 and produced projectors and cameras from Ernemann, Praktica, Tenax, Ikonta, Contax, Pentacon Six, Pentacon Super. In 1960, the Stuttgart association merged with Voigtlaender, which was under the control of the Carl Zeiss foundation (part of the Carl Zeiss Stiftung was also expropriated) since 1956. The east and west product lines were different. Ikophot light meters and part of Contax devices, microscopes and instruments, medical equipment were produced in the western part of Germany.

West Germany's Zeiss Ikon ended camera production in 1972, leaving only Contax contracts with Yashica. Part of the product line was transferred to Rollei. By that time, the Zeiss Ikon of the East German amalgamation had gone through another consolidation and became VEB Kinowerke Dresden, and then the main part of the Pentacon mill.
