Easy to service, can be disassembled and assembled without instructions and with a very limited set of tools. Here we do not find any confused structural elements, and the lens can be repaired on the knee right in the field. The main, I would even say, a widespread problem with Vega-12B is a sticky diaphragm.

Over time, the lubricant applied to the threads of the helicoid seeps into the diaphragm assembly, or what was applied from the factory / previous owner dries out. The nature of the problem can be either floating or permanent. The aperture on Vega-12B can stick both in a certain position of the aperture ring, and in the entire range. The design of the diaphragm drive is such that if the slightest resistance occurs, the diaphragm will slow down and be poorly controlled both from the camera and manually, when you press the ledge of the jump rope.

Unscrew one by one:

  • Part of the housing with bayonet and aperture drive
  • Fixing the lens at infinity
  • We unscrew the screws of the helicoid with the focus ring, remove them together (no need to unscrew)
  • We remove together with a spacer
  • If there are gaskets under the helicoid screws, then do not lose them. If they are not there, it is better to make new ones, because without gaskets it is impossible to tighten the screws tightly and at the same time ensure smooth rotation of the diaphragm ring - it is clamped with a helicoid.
  • We remove the stop for stepwise testing of switching aperture values ​​(a metal pin and a spring under it). It is necessary to control this moment, since a piece of ratchet metal usually sticks to the helicoid and falls out at the most inopportune moment.

In the hole into which the drive rod entered, there is a round spacer with an emphasis. This is a pusher that transmits force to the rocker, which sets the petals in motion. Let's remember how it stands, and put it aside. It happens that it is enough to clean the rocker itself and the area around it for the diaphragm to start working again, as before. However, if this does not happen, unscrew the frame of the rear lenses and get to the petals. If the petals are in oil, then we remove them and wash them in what we can. I use isopropyl alcohol and then wipe with cotton swabs.

The seat of the petals is attached to the body with three screws. In general, all parts in this lens are removed after unscrewing three screws from each. How do you like simplicity? The seat for the petals has a ledge, its location must be remembered - with it the rocker sets in motion the ring in which the petals lie. A surface is hidden under the ring, on which there can also be a copious amount of old grease with dust. Everything needs to be cleaned and washed. If it is possible not to lubricate the parts, do not do it. The diaphragm mechanism is machined so that no lubrication is required. In general, I prefer to collect dry.

  • Do not unscrew the screws that lock the aperture ring unnecessarily.
  • Check the operation of the rocker arm with and without aperture blades. The spring could get tired and weaken.
