The Sony 16-50mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS E PZ lens surprised me with its optical performance. To be honest, looking at its size and "plasticity", you perceive the glass as nothing more than a whale plug for the camera. However, this lens performs very well in operation.

Let's start with the dimensions. The lens is very compact when folded and therefore fits easily into a small case, even with a Sony A7 Mark II camera. That is why I took this particular set for rafting in the Sayan Mountains - there is always an opportunity to quickly snatch it out of the wardrobe trunk in order to capture a moment. In the video below you can see such an example - I was able to shoot a rare black stork from a moving motorboat. By the way, at the same time appreciate the work of the stub.

The second point is sharpness. This is what surprised me the most. Before that, I used a cropped Canon EOS 1100D camera with a top-end Canon EF 17-40L lens on my hikes. Imagine my surprise when the Sony 16-50mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS E PZ lag behind the Elka was not a failure at all!

Further. At maximum focus, there is a picture of the blur in the area. hips becomes very pleasant and flexible. Moreover, when you shoot flowers in close-up at a fully open aperture, the blurring of the background pleases again. Here, a small minimum focusing distance comes in handy.

Color rendition is normal, natural, without leaving one shade or another. Stab works for 4+. Working in a side light is fine in principle (but I always use a lens hood)

All in all, on crop this lens will be almost perfect when traveling. On a full frame, of course, it is not enough - for example, noise starts too early when increasing ISO.

Comparing this glass with Sony 18-55mm f / 3.5-5.6 E OSS, I can note that the latter draws a little more beautiful and sharper. But I am not going to sell or change the Sony 16-50mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS E PZ to a full-frame Sony 28-70 f / 3.5-5.6. For I often use manual optics on the carcass (for which, in fact, it was taken). And the difference in the picture between these two glasses is hardly noticeable. The only significant plus of the Sony 28-70 f / 3.5-5.6 is the operation of the entire sensor during shooting, which expands the field of view and dramatically reduces noise at high ISO.
A disadvantage that many pay attention to is the blockage of vertical lines at the wide end. But this problem does not really bother me - I am ready to sit with the "Warp" tool in Adobe Photoshop. The last snapshot in the review just illustrates this problem.

VERDICT: in the secondary market, glass justifies its value by 150%. And they ask for it, according to 2016, from 5000 to 6500 rubles
