In the meantime, we take only INTEL! Don't look at the notation i3 or i5, etc. It is important for us to know how many physical cores a processor has, and what generation it is! Intel has generation processor is indicated first digit, i.e. Intel Core i5-7200U - 7th generation, i5-8250U - 8th.

Cooling system and throttling!
This is perhaps the most important part of a laptop! It is very difficult to integrate a normal cooling system into a thin laptop case! Almost not real! Therefore, so that the laptop does not get warm, the processor is made noticeably weaker than its desktop counterparts, so that it does not generate a lot of heat!
But even so, the heating still turns out to be strong, and the more difficult the task, the higher the frequency (see above MAX TURBO frequency) and there are two ways out!
The first - it makes the fans run at maximum speed and we get a loud annoying buzz! Moreover, if in a stationary computer, which is under the table or behind the monitor, we do not feel the noise, since the case is far away! The laptop is in front of us and the noise hits our ears!
And alas, but often the laptop cooler simply does not cope with the task, even in spite of the enormous rotation speed, the temperature still continues to rise! And wherein the processor can reach extreme temperatures and start to melt or melt adjacent elements!
Coolers (fans)! The more of them, the better the laptop cools! But the noise is also higher, but alas, if you want performance in a laptop, learn to endure the noise!
The second important part is heat pipes! They transfer heat from the hot elements of the system (processor and video card) to the coolers! The more tubes there are, the more efficiently the heat is dissipated and cooled!
And so - To prevent the melting of important laptop systems from happening, there is second exit! The processor starts throttle - as the temperature rises, it begins to forcibly reduce its power (drop the frequency)! Let's look at the processor parameters above: Base frequency — base frequency — for example 1,6 Ghz - weak tasks, like a calculator or word, will be performed at this frequency, if complex tasks are performed at this frequency, for example PHOTOSHOP, then this will not be enough and the system will slow down hard! Therefore, for complex tasks such as PHOTOSHOP, the MAX TURBO frequency, and frequencies rise for example up to 3,4 Ghz (2 times !!) what leads to heating, the higher the frequency, the hotter. And the longer the processor runs at peak power, the more it warms up! When the thermostat detects an extremely dangerous temperature, it forcibly lowers the frequency, sometimes even below the baseline (base frequency)and you get a braking system - everything hangs! Or the device turns off altogether! Therefore, if the cooling system fails, whatever the processor is, you can get a braking machine!
And so it happened in MACBOOK PRO 2018 - new powerful processors were installed there, and the cooling system was designed in 2016 for old processors in order to make the laptop thin, light and pretty! Naturally, it cannot cool new processors and throttles terribly! The problem was partially solved "on the knee", but still buying the most powerful version of the Macbook Pro 15 2018 with an i9 processor for 300'000r, you get a weak computer that will be noticeably inferior to any Windows laptop on i9 for 100'000r.
This happens in any processor, even in your phone (for example, iPhone), when you run complex tasks or demanding toys on it, after a while it becomes very hot and starts to slow down!
And one more, but very important BUT!
The cooling system of a laptop (anyone's) gets clogged up very quickly and becomes ineffective (no matter how advanced it is!). In stationary computers, this problem does not exist (there it is just that the appearance inside does not become beautiful), but for a laptop it is an Achilles' heel! So keep in mind at least once a year, the cooling system will need to be cleaned! And the easier it is to access the fans, the longer your laptop will last!
RAM, in laptops, is also not the same as in computers! For example, the fact that you have 8GB DDR4 does not mean anything! Firstly name, RAM for laptops called SO-DIMM, so we are looking for the corresponding item in the store! Secondly, the RAM for laptops has reduced frequencies so as not to eat up the battery, so almost all the RAM is the same (the timings sometimes differ, but don't bother!
In most laptops, additional memory can be installed, and this is what I recommend you do!
Now 8GB is MINIMUM! BUT HIGHLY RECOMMEND 16GB!
Buy a laptop, see what kind of RAM it has, buy the same one and insert it into an empty slot!
IF the laptop costs everything two slots and BOTH are occupied! For example, you bought a laptop with 8GB DDR4, and inside there are 2 slots and both have 4GB! Don't worry, buy the same 8GB bracket and insert it instead of one of the 4GB brackets! The total is 12GB - YOU'RE ENOUGH TO DO IT!
The fact that there are modules of different sizes in the slots is not scary, the memory will work perfectly in FLEX mode!
Hard disk (storage)
Let's make a reservation right away, there should not be any HDD hard drives in a laptop, install only SSD! It is much faster, more reliable and the laptop will last longer on battery power!
Now SSDs have fallen in price (yes, they are still expensive, but not as much as in the early 2000s) and are about RUB 14 for 1GB memory! 500gb will cost 7000r, and 1TB at 14000r.
At the same time, there are standard SSDs, boxes of 2,5 ', and there are in the M.2 form factor
In fact, there is no difference between a standard SSD and M.2, but M.2 can achieve tremendous speeds, if a standard SSD has a read / write speed of about 500 MB / s (I do not recommend taking it below this speed), then M.2 can have speeds up to 2500 mb / s, on paper it is 5 times faster than standard SSDs, but in fact, the speed when running applications will not differ, and Windows itself will boot a maximum of 1 second faster. Therefore, there is no point in overpaying for super high-speed M.2!

Most likely, having bought a laptop, you will have to expand the memory! So make sure your laptop has an M.2 memory expansion slot.
And you can immediately take it with one small SSD, and buy a second memory module of the M.2 standard. Or take an SSD + HDD and sell this HDD on AVITO, replace it with an SSD. The main thing is that the SSD that comes in the bundle is at least 250GB👆. If there is no such configuration, take one with one HDD and replace it with a large-capacity SSD!

Built-in, this means you DO NOT have a separate video card, the video core built into the processor is responsible for the graphics and display! Usually called like Intel UHD Graphics 620 - the power of such a solution is very weak, and all the work lies with the processor! But on the other hand, such a solution is more energy efficient and the laptop lives longer on a single charge! BUT we need a laptop to run heavy applications like Photoshop or Lightroom and the built-in graphics won't be enough for us! Therefore, we do not consider such a solution at all!
Discrete graphics card! This means that you have a graphics processor separate from the CPU in your laptop, i.e. separate video card! BUT this is usually the same story as with processors! It is stripped down! And if you have written Nvidia GTX-1050, then it has little in common with the GTX-1050 video card for stationary computers! All because of the cooling, it is not possible to cool the video processor in a laptop normally! Plus the VIDEO core eats a lot of energy! The laptop would have lived for 30-40 minutes!
Yes! there are some models with full video cards! To find them you need to watch a lot of reviews!
It's simple if Built-in - laptop lives longer, but weakly pulls Photoshop or Lightroom! You can forget about fast video editing!
If Discrete - the laptop lives a little, but more or less fury Photoshop or Lightroom! And you can even edit vidos, and even in 4K!
Everything is simple here! If you have a powerful laptop, forget about autonomy! 2 hours, maximum 3!
It is important to understand here! When your laptop is not plugged into an outlet, it runs at no more than 60-80% of the maximum! This is necessary for the manufacturer to meet the stated 5-8 hours of battery life! As soon as you plug your laptop into a power outlet, ONLY THEN the performance is at its maximum (assuming good cooling!)
You can set the maximum performance mode from the battery in the settings, then you will get MAX performance even without an outlet! But the laptop will live for an hour and a half, and if you have a video card GTX1050Ti / 1060/1070 then at all 40 minutes no more 🤷♂️

Let's remember 2013-2015, where, in fact, there was no choice in laptops at all, there was either a Macbook or all the rest of the shit made through the ass. I needed a reliable laptop with a good screen, a tenacious battery and good performance, it was only for Apple! Why was everyone else doing shit? Here you need to remember the history!
Everything is very simple, in the 1990s and early 2000s, people had to either watch TV or go to the computer to consume informational content (which was extremely small, the same youtube did not exist yet)! Television, this is, for example, in Russia - CDs with pirate movies from the metro or the 1st channel, well, computer for those who were looking for something new, and tried to keep up with the current information space, which was just coming into the peak of its activity!
In the 2000s, the Internet became even more accessible, accordingly more developed and a lot of entertaining content appeared, and the zombie box ceased to be so interesting, and most importantly, it did not keep up with the changes taking place in the world, if something happened in the morning I find out about it on the Internet, and the TV set will show it only at the end of the week! To watch a new movie, either in a movie or online services, and the TV set will show only after 12 months when the rental is over!
Earlier in the morning everyone ate breakfast on TV, at lunchtime they read a newspaper-magazine, worked where there is a computer, and in the evening again a TV set! BUT now to keep up with the times needed a device that would be portable, you could carry with you, watch what you want and where you want (such an opportunity has become available), work wherever you want, and generally not be tied to one place! And what if, for example, you want to watch a movie before going to bed or surf the Internet, you need a mobile device that you can put on your belly and watch while lying in bed! It was the computer age!
And the laptop has become such a device! What was originally a highly specific device for professionals (journalists, diplomats, managers, etc.) went to the masses! Since the mid-2000s, there has been a boom in laptops, which has never been the case! Sony was the biggest weirdo with their VAIO line! At the same time, approximately formed a "product life cycle" for laptops, 3-5 years!
Then two new niches appeared in laptops! These are NETbooks and Ultrabooks! It happened around 2008! Intel introduced the intel ATOM processor to the market (earth to him in peace) which was the support of all NETbooks, and Apple has released its legendary Apple MacBook Air thus, in essence, she introduced such a concept as "Ultrobuk"!
The netbooks had a small display and size, a weak processor and a lousy display! Due to their low cost, the Chinese actively began to rivet them! But the product was stillborn and did not go to the masses! They slowed down and were not capable of anything! Since Windows XP and 7 were not optimized for mobile devices at all! And the market demanded universal devices and work and rest!
Ultrabooks have become such devices, it is a thin and light laptop with smaller dimensions and weight compared to conventional laptops, but at the same time - most of the characteristic features of a full-fledged laptop.
But the beginning of the 2010s marked a momentous event! Apple iPad came out in spring 2010! In fact, from this time you can start counting new post-computing era! The tablet was a simplified version of a laptop, with a simpler interface, it is easier to work with your finger, it takes up less space, it is much lighter, and most importantly, for most people, functionality and performance of laptops are simply redundant, for the Internet and movies! And most importantly, the tablet was cheaper!
By 2012-2013, there were a bunch of different tablets on the market, for every taste! And accordingly when The "life cycle" of laptops from the 2000s began to come to an end, many have chosen a tablet to replace it! Therefore, in 2013-2015 there was the strongest decline in sales of laptops around the world for all manufacturers! In order to somehow attract new users at least at the expense of the price, all firms began to economize terribly on absolutely everything in order to reduce the cost! ON materials, on components, on workers' salaries, on the time of model production, and on the time of model development, etc.! Everyone except Apple they have always positioned themselves as a premium product, and were not going to reduce either the quality or the price! Therefore, it turned out, if only Apple is of high quality, everything else is rubbish🤷️️
Oddly enough, the "life cycle" of tablets is the same as that of laptops, 3-5 years! Everything, who bought the tablet in 2011, unlike the phone (which we change in 2-3 years) until 2015-2016 were not going to change it, therefore, as in 2013, no one bought laptops, and then they did not buy tablets! The market is full! Smartphones added fuel to the fire! They have become more powerful, with large displays, and for the general consumer they have become that universal device that is always with you! The need for tablets has disappeared for a long time!
Some companies like Microsoft or Lenovo have tried to make a hybrid between a tablet and a laptop! A kind of laptop-transformer with a detachable screen, you need to scan the film, unfasten the keyboard, you need to work, fasten it back! BUT such solutions did not gain popularity, but simply entered a separate niche, like MONOBLOCK computers, where all parts of the computer are hidden in the screen!
But the market does not stand still, this is because the world is changing, and people have new needs! Trends appear and so on! Social networks came into our lives a long time ago, but there has never been such a passion as now! Instagram has over 1 billion users, YouTube over 2 billion! All this content is now mainly consumed via a smartphone, or by connecting a smartphone (or set-top box) to a TV! Therefore, new professions such as CONTENT MANAGER have appeared! All trade went purely to the Internet, and so on! And most importantly, the industry finally "gave birth" to processors that can be powerful and at the same time energy efficient! There are a lot of people involved in the creation of visual content for social networks, photography and video, graphics, etc. The smartphone can no longer cope with this!
Devices, more powerful, but mobile at the same time were required again! And in 2016 such devices appeared! Apple has redesigned its MacBook Pros to make them smaller, thinner and lighter at the expense of power and battery life! Then Asus Aser began to monkey and so on. We got clones of MacBooks, and some are not bad. Even Huawei pulled up and released its MateBook X Pro! Thanks Microsoft-Intel! This became possible thanks to new processors and new Windows, which, unlike previous versions, now works great and is fully optimized for mobile computers!
But for serious work, these ULTRABOOKS cannot replace a full-fledged PC! So far, it is not possible to make the power of a full-fledged Computer in a Macbook case! Solutions called "Gaming laptops" are far from compactness and autonomy, and in fact do not differ much in size from a modern stationary computer! And there are not so many models of "gaming laptops", due to their specificity, they are not needed by the wide market! From here, there are few models and the development of these lines is sluggish!
Therefore, now we have 3 types of laptops on the market!
- Gaming / performance
Budget, this is the same shit from 2014 on which they saved, they just stuck new processors there. The screen, cooling, assembly are all shit, I highly do not recommend buying!
Ultrabooks, lightweight but not very productive, for a photographer it will only go like a machine, to make 20-30 photos on the road on the knees, like a full-fledged computer for a photographer, hemorrhoids and a brake!
Gaming, very powerful machines, but there is no talk of any compactness or autonomy! A powerful computer will cost less and take up little space!
As a result, what should the photographer take?
Either a full-fledged very powerful computer (from about 50'000 to 140'000 rubles) or, if you need to move often, an ultrabook, but replace the computer normally, for quick and large-scale work with a large number of photos, for example, weddings, etc., it will not be able !
Therefore, all photographers who often move around have both a computer and an ultrabook)
