Kharkov machine-building plant "FED" (ukr. Kharkiv Machine-Building Plant "FED") Is a state enterprise of Ukraine. It manufactures high-precision fuel and hydraulic control equipment for the aerospace industry and fulfills orders for other branches of mechanical engineering and railway transport.
It is included in the list of enterprises of strategic importance for the economy and security of Ukraine.
The plant was established in 1927 on the basis of small workshops of the Children's Commune named after. F. E. Dzerzhinsky.
In essence, FED was a military-style school designed as a rehabilitation center for young people. The center was created by Anton Makarenko, a Ukrainian educator who believed that difficult young people could be productive members of society by combining education and work in a strict atmosphere. The center itself was named after Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky, who was the founder of the Soviet Union's secret police known as the NKVD. The NKVD was the forerunner of the much more famous KGB.
Over time, the FED would improve both the design and reliability of the first chamber, but unfortunately the location of the plant in Ukraine meant inevitable destruction in World War II. Anticipating this, in 1942 the Soviet government transferred the plant to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Aviation Industry and evacuated it to the Siberian city of Berdsk. In the shortest possible time, the team mastered the production of fuel pumps for La-5 and La-7 fighters. The drawings for the FED chamber were given to the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant, where they eventually began to produce their own copy of the FED, called Zorkiy.
Later, the famous small-format cameras of the FED-5 series, automatic cameras FED-Mikron, FED-Mikron-2, FED-35, FED-50, stereo cameras FED-XNUMX were developed and mass-produced. Stereo» and other photo accessories.
In the post-war years, the plant continued to produce equipment for the aviation industry, and soon began to produce for space, as well as other branches of mechanical engineering. At the same time, the production of cameras of the series “FED". In February 1991, on the basis of the main department of the Ministry of Aviation Industry of the USSR, the Union of Aviation Engine Building (ASSAD) was created, which included aircraft repair and engine building enterprises of the USSR (including the FED plant).
